No more worrying about the lagging hikers in your group every time you reach a fork in the trail. Plus, because the 530HCx is a regular FRS/GMRS radio, you may be able to use it to communicate with other regular FRS/GMRS radios in the neighborhood.
The 530HCx is equipped with a fitted electronic compass that gives bearing info when you are standing still, with a barometric altimeter that tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your exact altitude. You may be able to use the altimeter to plot barometric pressure over time, which may help you keep an eye on changing weather conditions. And thanks to the NOAA weather radio, you will know well in advance when a storm is advancing.
